This book was exactly what I was looking for. It is for those who attend synagogue services and hear the blessings but can't read the prayer book. I can now follow along in the prayer book and I am working on my first Aliyah in Hebrew.

Interesting concept

The book teaches the Hebrew alphabet (Alef Bet) by going through blessings. What's good about the book is that it teaches consonants and vowel points at the same time so that you're making sounds right away. What's not so good is that it doesn't teach you grammar. So, you can learn the words in the book, but can't make your own sentences or figure out the meaning of related words.

An Excellent Tool for Opening the Door to Hebrew

This book was designed as a tool to teach adults how to read and pronounce the Hebrew Alef-Bet (Alphabet) for the purpose of reading and understanding traditional prayers and blessings. I found this to be a useful guide in learning the letters of the Hebrew alphabet along with their appropriate pronounciations.

This book is simple and uncluttered. With some work, I can't imagine anyone would have difficulty using this as an aid to learn Hebrew. Certainly it will take some practice and work on the reader's behalf--notably, one should be willing to set aside some time each day for going over the letters and pronouncing them. With a few weeks practice, the blessings introduced in the latter chapters and included in the rear of the book are approachable. Also included are helpful hints for pronounciation, and the chart of the Hebrew Alphabet in block letters and script w/ Hebrew name (English and Hebrew), along with page reference for that letter.

He obtained a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of South Florida in 2003, a master’s degree in systems science and automation from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1999, and a bachelor’s degree (honors) in electrical engineering from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, India, in 1995. Dr. Mohanty’s research is in low-power, high-performance nanoelectronics. He is an author of hundreds of peer-reviewed journal and conference publications. Dr. Mohanty holds many U.S. patents. He has advised/co-advised many Ph.D. dissertations and numerous master’s theses. Dr. Mohanty currently serves as the chair of the Technical Committee on Very Large Scale Integration (TCVLSI), IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS). He serves on the editorial board of many peer-reviewed international journals, including IET-CDS Journal, Elsevier Integration Journal, and Journal of Low Power Electronics. Dr. Mohanty has served as a guest editor for many journals, including ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems (JETC) for an issue titled “New Circuit and Architecture-Level Solutions for Multidiscipline Systems,” August 2012, and IET Circuits, Devices & Systems (CDS) for an issue titled “Design Methodologies for Nanoelectronic Digital and Analog Circuits,” September 2013. He serves on the organizing and program committee of several international conferences. Dr. Mohanty is a senior member of the IEEE and ACM.

THE book for mixed-signal IC design

DISCLAIMER: I am a colleague and collaborator of the author. Still, I wouldn’t give high praises if I didn’t think the book was worth it.

This is THE book for those (students as well as practicing engineers) that want to get up to speed with mixed-signal (analog and digital) IC design as practiced today, namely in the nanometer scale. It differs from other, older VLSI books in two aspects: 1) it covers both digital AND analog IC design (usually separate subjects) and 2) not only nanoCMOS but other state-of-the-art technologies (graphene, carbon nanotubes, memristors etc.) are illustrated.

At nearly 800 letter-size pages, it is a reference and textbook into one. The text is lavishly illustrated with hundreds of figures (unfortunately in black and white – I’d be happy to see a color edition), tables and plots. There are 12 chapters, each with one hundred or more references at the end.

The topics cover the entire spectrum of mixed-signal IC design: starting from general system description all the way to advanced topics such as design for excellence and metamodeling. A small sample of topics includes: application of nanoelectronic systems, parasitics, thermals and yield, oscillators and PLLs, analog/digital conversion, sensors, most currently used memory technologies, system design flows, system and circuit level simulation, process variation awareness and finally, design space exploration and optimization using surrogate modeling (metamodeling) techniques.

This is one textbook that will remain current for years to come.

This book is a MUST for VLSI students, especially for mixed signal processing, but not limited to it. It discusses the most recent topics in VLSI from application point of view. It gives an in-depth idea for modeling in different platforms from Simscape, Simulink to SPICE. Various case studies have been considered while explaining the topics, along with their design. It has covered various process technologies from 180 nm to 45 nm, along with recent state-in-art topics like Memristor, FinFET, CNT and others. The AMS processing has been covered in details from different hierarchical level and each level has been analyzed in depth. For a research students, this book is a perfect place to start from. It gives all required idea about what is in current research and shows challenges and possible research areas. I have gone through this book and I found it very good.

This is a must have book for all the students. It is very helpful especially for the Masters students. This book covers almost all the topics from basics to the recently invented FinFET, Graphene FET and memristor. This book alone gives a student what he wants in the area of VLSI and Mixed signal system design. It has covered all the technologies. Each chapter, with its references, guides the reader to numerous published papers on each topic for indepth knowledge. For research this is the best place to start from.

disorganized mess

While the author has a huge amount of knowledge on the subject matter he clearly has no idea how to create a textbook that flow seemlessly from one topic to the next. I spent all semester jumping back and forth between subjects and topics. The case studies are dull and dry, and for the most part outdated.

It's a good start

I bought the Kindle version of this book for a class that I am taking as part of my masters degree. It has a lot of features that I like such as being able to search and add easy to find notes. The thing that I don't like about it is that the Kindle version does not have everything that the hard copy does. The Kindle version also doesn't have page numbers. When the professor references a certain page in an assignment, it makes it very difficult to know if I am referencing the right material. For the most part I like using a Kindle version but they need to do a better job to make sure that everything is included from the original version.

As far as the actual content of the book is concerned, it is fairly informative. I think the author could do a better job explaining some topics. A lot of the phrasing could be reworded to make the book easier to read.

Good if You Can Suffer Through

Just finished a class taught from this book and I did NOT love trying to learn from it! Ettlie knows TONS but can't seem to organize his thoughts or stay on topic! Clue: he does repeat the same thoughts throughout the book so occasionally you can use later passages to decipher others. He even has two sections by the same name in one chapter - I am not kidding! I don't even think his editor could make it through this one. Lots of great ideas in there but plan many hours reading every single reference to try to figure out his points. That is IF you can find the references, some are quite old and many are flat WRONG, or not completely identified, especially in Chapter 9. Sadly, his reviews as a prof sound about the same. Smart guy but proceed with caution!

Lots of information, clearly presented.

This is not a book for a beginner, but is an excellent book for two groups of readers: those who have some background with R and wish to learn about its capabilities for spatial statistics; and those with some background in spatial statistics who wish to learn how to use R. The authors have been the main developers of the spatial statistics packages on R, and therefore know the packages intimately. But the authors also have a deep knowledge of the spatial statistics literature, and I found myself learning something new about these methods in every chapter. Everyone serious about spatial statistics should see what R has to offer. This book is the easiest way to do that.

If you are not used to R, get some familiarity first. This is a great resource for people who are accustomed to R. Would recommend for just about anyone in the environmental/ geographic field.

Overall good, but could be less technical

I was really excited when I ordered this book as it looked like the type of material I had been looking for for ages, but as it turns out I am mildly disappointed in it, primarily because I found the text somewhat hard to grasp and the code not particularly well explained. It is still a very good read though and certainly helped me enhance my knowledge of statistical analyses in R. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to examine spatial data in R, but there is a bit of homework to do to be able to understand how all the pieces fit together.

Women's fashion

I was more interested in seeing the fashion of the times. This is a detailed discussion/surveytextbook. Actually, tedious to read and not many illustrations. I am working on our family tree and wanted visuals.

Lots of Great Information

Reforming Women’s Fashion is a very well-researched book that discusses the viewpoints of both the individuals and groups involved in dress reform in Europe and America. The author goes into minute detail about their various efforts at reform and contains many wonderful illustrations of Bloomer-style and aesthetic dress. Though sometimes repetitive, the text is well-written and based primarily upon nineteenth-century documents. As an extra plus, it includes many illuminating quotes. It should be of great interest to anyone wanting to learn about the nineteenth-century dress reform movement.
