Excellent scholarship

Riplinger's exhaustive research once again benefits all within Christ's church who love the word. If any nay sayers disagree, they should check her sources and give references to refute her, not just trash-talk.

She's not saying that everyone needs to learn English to have a pure preserved word of God, but that all pure preserved translations come from the same source--hence the similarities of the Geneva, Bishops, and earlier Bibles. She has also mentioned a Vaudois (French) bible, Luther's German bible, and a spanish bible as being in the line of pure preserved translations. The point is that God can and does preserve His Word even through copies of copies of copies for each generation.

Don't take Gail's word for it. Do your own research. Prove it beyond a shadow of any doubt. Ask God for truth. That's what I did, and I came to a similar conclusion: God's Word preserved in English, is the King James Bible.

Well Researched, Good History and Source Material

I learned a ton from this book. The layout is a little awkward to get used to at first, but the research about the texts and the amount of time GA Riplinger put into her work must have been a ton.

You will learn about the meter of the KJV, the source of the texts as she always discusses. But behind her support for the KJV she now goes backwards and shows how the Wycliffe Bible, the Saxon Bible and the Gothic Bible all agreed or fit with the KJV.

You will also learn about men who were important to bringing us the KJV including two very important figures, Wycliffe and Erasmus. She devotes almost 100 pages to Erasmus' life and teachings and how he was persecuted for his beliefs.

This is an amazing book for Biblical Research. If you are interested in delving more deeply into the workings of textual criticism, Riplinger's book will be a great guide to get you through it.

An excellent and detailed work of study.
I can think of no aspect concerning the Bible that this author has not studied in detail.
It is particularly significant at this time as the many translations of the bible are causing not only divisions in the Christian church but confusion as well.

About the Author

William Steig (1907-2003) was a cartoonist, illustrator and author of award-winning books for children, including Shrek!, on which the DreamWorks movies are based. Steig was born in New York City. Every member of his family was involved in the arts, and so it was no surprise when he decided to become an artist. He attended City College and the National Academy of Design. In 1930, Steig's work began appearing in The New Yorker, where his drawings have been a popular fixture ever since. He published his first children's book, Roland the Minstrel Pig, in 1968.

In 1970, Steig received the Caldecott Medal for Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. His books for children also include Dominic; The Real Thief; The Amazing Bone, a Caldecott Honor Book; Amos & Boris, a National Book Award finalist; and Abel's Island and Doctor De Soto, both Newbery Honor Books. Steig's books have also received the Christopher Award, the Irma Simonton Black Award, the William Allen White Children's Book Award, and the American Book Award. His European awards include the Premio di Letteratura per l'infanzia (Italy), the Silver Pencil Award (the Netherlands), and the Prix de la Fondation de France. On the basis of his entire body of work, Steig was selected as the 1982 U.S. candidate for the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration and subsequently as the 1988 U.S. candidate for Writing.

Stieg also published thirteen collections of drawings for adults, beginning with About People in 1939, and including The Lonely Ones, Male/Female, The Agony in the Kindergarten, and Our Miserable Life.

He died in Boston at the age of 95.

Didn't Do It For Me

I'm a big fan of William Steig, and we own at least a dozen of his books. This one, however, is my least favorite.

A frog named Gorky makes a strange magical concoction which sends him on an airborne journey. A great deal of time is spent on the admirers as he floats through the sky. He then runs into trouble with a thunderstorm, wishes to go home, eventually figures a method of pulling himself back to Earth (by emptying the magic solution from the bottle one drip at a time). And the last drip in the bottle turns a rock into an elephant.

I like bizarre, and I've even been known to be a fan of randomness. This book certainly has both, and Steig's language is - as always - colorful. But the story is long, drags in a number of places for me, and really never hits the right chord.

I'd never advise anyone to not give a book a chance - clearly there are some who do like this one - but I feel there are a number of books by Steig that are far more interesting and entertaining.

A story that transcends time...

I read this story to my son when he was a little tyke. He's now nearly 20. I haven't read the book in years, yet, lately, I've been thinking a lot about Gorky and his travels away from home, up into the "blue, blue sky". Guess it has something to do with my 3 kids all about ready to take off on their own. The prose is marvelous, full of colorful and descriptive language, the story is beautiful, about the joy and pain of growing up and away, and the illustrations are an added benefit, though unnecessary due to the ability of the author to draw wonderful pictures with his magical use of the English language. Thank you William Steig!

Again, Steig lifts the reader to heights of English eloquence

William Steig has learned, far better than most children's authors, how to write to a number of different audiences at the same time. His prose is dense yet lyrical and accessible. The rose attar that fascinates a boy, the hints of Russian and American literature, the psychoanalytic structure of a family beside itself with worry--the merging of all these themes is masterful. Steig takes the English language seriously, from ears to scuts. Don't pass it by!

It has helped me in many situations when I've had a manager waiting on a spreadsheet and I've hit a problem. Clear, well-explained , practical and effective; a must have on every office desk.

Written for a Child

I am using this book for a graduate-level class (maybe that is on my university) and it looks like someone who has worked in the industry for less than 5 years wrote it. It takes the basic principles of communications and does a poor job of explaining them. It does not expand into any detail and it makes me think the authors have been in a classroom a little too long. The questions, exercises, and mini-cases are poorly put together and do not relate to the covered material half the time.

The only thing they have going for them is that you will be forced to buy this book for your class.

Not a great launching point for networking info

I'm a beginner and find this book to be not that helpful. It explains the theoretical concepts of a network but doesn't help understand how these apply to a real network. Information about how to interact with a network, how to configure anything, how to physically set up anything is practically nonexistent. I'm going to finish this class being able to talk about layers and protocols but I'll be a mostly useless employee.

Here's a quote from the book: "In many ways, the Internet is like the universe (see Figure 10-1). Each of us works in his or her own planet with its own rules (i.e., ISP) but each planet is interconnected with all the others." Except that we don't each have our own planet and they're not interconnected. Figure 10-1 is a picture of stars and one was labeled "you are here". Unfortunately I'm not kidding.

Does NOT work on Windows 8 version of Kindle.

I've never seen this before, but this book will not open OR download on the Windows 8 version of Kindle. So I bought the book using my Surface Pro 3, but can't open it. Will have to buy the hard copy, which I'm not that happy about.

Just buy it already...

Okay, so it's a beginners guide. But at the really low price for over two hundred pages, I think this is a great bargain for it's convenience, step by step instructions, examples and helpful hints from the author. Having a book to scan is a lot faster and more convenient than the JIRA help screens, and I'm in a hurry to get the info I need and just move on.

About the Author

Julian L. Burton, MBChB (Hons), MEd, FHEA is the lead coronial pathologist at the Medico-Legal Centre in Sheffield, UK. He is also a senior teaching fellow and director of undergraduate medical admissions at the University of Sheffield Medical School. Dr. Burton performs 350 to 400 adult medico-legal autopsies per year. These include investigation of deaths where the cause of death is not known. He also investigates possible suicides, accidental deaths, industrial deaths, peri/post-operative deaths and deaths where there are concerns that death may have been due to medical or surgical intervention. He has taught autopsy practice to audiences around the world.

Sarah Saunders, BSc (Hons), MBChB, MD, DMJ (Path), PGCert Clin.Ed, FHEA is a speciality registrar in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Dr. Saunders was trained in forensic pathology at the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit and holds the DMJ in Forensic Pathology. She also obtained a medical doctorate in forensic radiology and maintains a research interest in minimally invasive autopsy techniques. As part of her role as a histopathologist, she undertakes hospital and medico-legal autopsies. Dr. Saunders holds a PGCert in clinical education and is a fellow of the higher education authority.

Stuart J. Hamilton, BMSc(Hons), MBChB, FRCPath, MFFLM is a Home Office Registered forensic pathologist at East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit in Leicester, UK. He is the deputy chief forensic pathologist for the East Midlands at the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit. He has performed around 3000 autopsies ranging from simple sudden and unexpected deaths to complex multiple homicides. Dr. Hamilton has provided expert comment for various newspaper articles and TV programmes as well as expert testimony in various courts. He is also the honorary secretary of the British Association in Forensic Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

But you used to say, “Upon this earthy ball, not a soul that pleases all.” If, then, a few readers shall find as much pleasure in reading about you as I do in writing, I shall be content.

Grandmother had three children, a son and two daughters. For many years the older daughter lived with relatives in Vienna; when she married, the younger took her place. The son, a mechanic, worked at his trade in a small town in Bohemia, while Grandmother dwelt in a village upon the borders of Silesia. Her family consisted of herself and Betsey, an old servant who had been in the family ever since Grandmother could remember.

Grandmother did not live the life of a recluse; all the people of the village were to her brothers and sisters; she was to them a mother, a counsellor, and a friend. No christening, wedding, or funeral could go on without her. The course of her life was so even, her days were so busy and happy, that she desired no change—she would have been content to live thus forever.

This even course of life was disturbed by a letter. Grandmother often received letters from her children, but none ever came before, fraught with such momentous questions for her to solve. It was from her daughter in Vienna, who told her mother that her husband had obtained service in the household of a certain princess, whose estates were but a few miles distant from the village where Grandmother lived, and that he was to be at home with his family during the summer only, while the princess lived in the country, and therefore it was their earnest desire that Grandmother should come to live with them. Indeed, no excuse would be accepted, as both she and the children had set their hearts upon it and were eagerly looking for her arrival.

This is probably the easiest way in USA to obtain Nemcova's classic novel of idealised country life in a rural part of the Czech lands in the mid nineteenth century in an English translation. It is a neatly bound tubby facsimile edition from the original 1892 publication by McClurg of Chicago in a translation by the Czech American Frances Gregor (Frantiska Gregorov�). Frances Gregor was a graduate of Cornell University, whose Digital Library have produced the new facsimile edition. The alternative edition of this translation from Vitalis in Prague is attractively covered and illustrated, but probably harder to obtain - by the time you've paid for the postage it may cost almost as much as this Cornell facsimile edition. The Vitalis edition is also slightly revised, with first names being given in the original in modern fashion rather than in English language equivalents as in Gregor's original reproduced by Cornell. This Cornell edition also includes a note on the writer's life which is not in the Vitalis edition which just has a couple of paragraphs of introduction. An alternative translation, done in 1962 by Edith Pargeter - the real name of the mystery writer Ellis Peters - is out-of-print at the moment - and in any case Gregor's is possibly the more fluent read of the two for today's readers, even though dating from seventy years earlier. In any edition or translation, this is a satisfying and enjoyable evocation of a past time in central Europe, and also important for anyone hoping to get more understanding of Czech life and literature. Strongly recommended.

Walk back in time

I was talking to an old Czech friend, Arny, (Arnost), the other day and he was mentioning a book he had read at school about life in Bohemia. He has lived in Australia since 1947 and speaks English now and has some difficulty reading Czech.

I suggested that there may be a English version. No surprises there was one at Amazon.

The book arrived within a couple of weeks and I gave it to my friend. He loved it and he said that it was an even better read than it was when he was young. He had sat down and started reading it and finished in a day.

With the white washing of America came a loss of a lot of European culture. Through research and observation I realized my family maintains a lot of Bohemian traditions and ancestry. I bought this book to gain a peek (even if it idealized) into the place where many from my family immigrated: The Peroutka's, Wachal's, Mahlik's, and Cherney's. Its is an easy read and has great tidbits of personal history like "The Kolache War".

Interesting concept, but I got bored by the end

I liked the concept: consenting submissive gives written consent to be trained as a concubine and sold to an owner, with the understanding of a big payoff if she stays a year, and then is hypnotized so she doesn't recall giving consent, so thus it "feels" like non-con for those who get cranked by non-con but may have moral/philosophical objections. The story takes place over three general sections: 1) the sub, Rose, is taken hostage by a "breaking master" posing as the cable guy, who prepares her to attend the Institute for formal concubine training; 2) Rose's training at the Institute, and 3) Rose's placement with her master, his wife, and their other concubine. I liked the first section and some of the training, but by the last section I was bored. I think I got turned off by the latter section's emphasis on age play (not my kink).

Fantastic read!

Ms. Tilton has packed this story full of total hotness.
Rose Hutchison, a sexually repressed divorcee, has been accepted into the Institute where she will be trained as a submissive concubine for a Master she has yet to meet. She consented to humiliation as a part of her training before her abduction, only she doesn’t remember it because it was erased from her memory. She learns that obedience is not an option.

I thoroughly enjoyed following Rose through her training as she was forced into sexual acts that she was terribly uncomfortable with, but was inexplicably aroused by.

The plot of this steamy tale of submissive exploration was very well written with incredible detail. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in fantasy BDSM that includes consensual non-consent, anal humiliation, spankings, m�nage, and more.

The book had 3012 locations on my kindle. The book was about a young 25 year old girl, named Rose. Rose had secretly, wished to be dominated and controlled in the bedroom. She signed a strange contract at a place called the institute, relinquishing control of her mind and body. The book was filled with many, many, many sex, oral sex, anal sex, public sex, multiple sex partners and lesbian sex scenes. The sex scenes were vivid, detailed and very, descriptive. The book contained spankings, with paddles, hands and canes. I did not particularly like any of the characters. The men cared, only about their own needs and the woman, only wanted to please the men. NOT worth the $4.95, price tag. This was a 3 for me.
