Better than nothing.

First off, I really like Ionic. I'm trying to learn it while actively developing a project in it. It is pretty frustrating though, partly because there is limited help/tutorials, and this is compounded because it is only mostly like angular. It really helps to know angular, but pretty much all the directives change names and add functionality, and pretty much their bootstrap alternative is different as well.

So, that led me to buying a book, just about the only book, out of desperation. I'm sure more are coming, (Ionic in Action end of July) but too late for me. Honestly, if there were some alternative, this book might get less stars.

PROS:
* The price is moderate.
* It is easy to read.
* It provided some insight I didn't know, like Ionic provides a proxy for debugging in the browser for X-D issues. Wish I knew that sooner.

CONS:
* It is 165 pages, but it needs to be 465 pages. Or 565 pages...
* They agonizingly don't give you quite enough information to adapt their app to your app. They hand-wave at topics they could have just as easily explained. The book is too focused on little snippets explaining their specific app. There just are not enough details.
* The chapter titles sound good, but then don't deliver. Ex. Designing the Application. Okay, this should be good, but after a too-brief-to-use section on ionic styles (the web description is WAY better), they mention ionicons, then the last half of the chapter is SASS. Really? Maybe call this chapter "Styling the application", but even that is a stretch.

Disappointing

This is one of the first books to introduce ionic and it does a terrible job.
Everything goes well until the end of chapter 2, when you get the basic template running.

From then on, the books lose its value, it became a collection of snippets that you have to assemble by yourself.

Interesting read

On the physical book : this is the 2nd, expanded version of the original book (MINUS the not-so apt David Ickes intro that IMHO clashed with the content), of better quality overall, with better paper and formating.
My only complaint would be that the final color inserts are not printed that finely, which is a shame, but overall, I feel there's a real improvement. Nice addition of some rare material (made available in a later related book) from Richard Shaver, too.

As for the content : well, I'm not a very savvy reviewer, but this proved to be a great take on the hollow earth/inner world(s), well-sourced, from fiction, non-fiction, and various ancient mythologies & folklores (a running trend, which I'd venture likely inspired the late Mc Tonnies' 'Crypto-terrestrials' idea), with an interesting tie-in to Biblical eschatology.
I've read and heard various people 'into' the paranormal, including a couple from an Evangelical perspective!, praise that book as the best synthesis on the topic, and... I believe they were right.
It's basically looking at the subject using different fields of human traditions, from pulps and Lovecraft to the Bible and greek mythology, and trying to piece a larger view from those tidbits.

It's accessible to the layman, clearly written, it neither dumbs the subject down nor makes it some kind of arcane knowledge, and is 'factual', with no straight agenda pushed down the reader's throat along the "grand theory" developed - though the author clearly doesn't hide where he stands, beliefs-wise (in the expanded sections I believe, written post-9/11, where there is some open pugnacity).

All in all... Good, solid book.

I have had lifelong interest in the world that is normally hidden from sight, a world of myth, mystery and magick that has been around for millennia, but still eludes us. According to the well researchd conclusions in this book, that hidden world and the creatures that reside there have always been much closer that might at first appear. They are not in some far away universe light years distant from us, but rather, they are right here, right now and literally underfoot.

Mike Mott presents striking evidence to support his hypothesis that the demons, djinn and monsters of yore may still be among us. From the earliest times they have become programmed into our race memory and still occasionally and inadvertently reveal themselves to us as they emerge from their undergound sanctuaries for their own unknown purposes. This book is a valuable addition to the library of anyone who is interested in the myths, legends and lore that have grown up around humanity and I can thoroughly recommend it.

For centuries, writers have given us fantastic stories of hidden worlds and lost civilizations found deep under the surface of the Earth. The narratives of past cultures are filled with stories of wild beasts, and strange beings living in the underworld. Even in the bible we find mention of people and creatures living under the Earth. Are all these stories simply someone's vivid imagination? Or maybe there is some truth to them?

Drawing from over twenty years of research, Mott has taken all these underground stories and combined them into an amazing in-depth collection that questions what we perceive as myth, folklore, and mythology.

The book is filled with numerous b/w and color pictures depicting both ancient and futuristic cave scenes, and strange beings thought to exist underground. Mammoth Cave, Lechuguilla Cave, Blowing Cave, and Carlsbad Caverns are mentioned, as well as the cavernous TAG area where Mott writes about "mysterious lights, UFOs, livestock mutilations, and strange deaths and disappearances" coming from this region. The book contains a good index and bibliography for the wealth of information presented.

Surely there are thousands of caves yet to be discovered and untold miles of passages yet to be explored. We have only just begun to understand the underground world and the life forms that exist and thrive in its dark domain. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed!

Amazing material for work and life

I bought this from a local book store in Colombo. And I must say this is a book that I will not just giveaway. I tend to read the short sections, one at a time and doesn't take more than 3-4mins for each advice. I have read some almost three four times. Each time I read though it may be the same thing all over again there seems to be take from it. Highly recommend this book. '
